INSPIRATIONAL HUMAN- Tyson Mitchell

Today I’m interviewing an epic human being who, even though he may not realise it, has had a massive impact on my Yoga journey in such a positive way. This guy is truly an inspirational human and not only has he helped me get more clear on what it is I want out of life, he continually inspires everyone around him to be the best versions of themselves they can be.

Of course I could only be talking about Store Manager of Lululemon Queen St Tyson Mitchell.

Ty loves living the #sweatlife and when he’s not training or running the biggest Lulu store in Brissy you can find him with his beautiful partner Rava and their 2 dogs, Leo and Elsa at the beach on the Goldie.

Here’s a little peek into the life of one of my fave humans on this planet!...

Where’s your favorite place to sweat?

There's too many to choose just one so here's my top 3; Science of Fitness in Milton, Crossfit 4000 in the CBD and Harlow Hot Yoga in Newstead.

What’s the best part about your job as store manager at Lululemon Queen St?

The People; who are my team and my community! My team are the reason I do my job, from the fun we have on the floor every day to seeing someone in my team crush a goal of theirs, they make my job the best in the world. Our community is the reason we have a team in the first place and we love getting to know everyone we educate and sweat with!

What is goal setting?

We at Lululemon, look at goal setting, as the practice of creating a vision of your ideal life in 10 years time and then using this vision to powerfully set goals for your life in 10, 5 and 1 years time. By getting clear on what your vision is, it allows you to set goals that are always moving you closer to what you want your life to look like! It can be daunting to think about yourself in 10 years time but the great thing about being in this work is being able to make decisions for your life based on the vision you've created for yourself. Just remember, think big! If you're not failing 50% off the time, you're probably playing too small!

Why is goal setting so important?

By being in the practice of goal setting, you know whether each decision you make every day is getting you closer or moving you away from what your ideal life looks like! Also by setting goals and then sharing them with the people you have in your life, you give other people the opportunity to help you achieve the things that matter most to you!

We talk about intention a lot in Yoga but what’s the difference between a goal and an intention?

Setting an intention in yoga is the practice of creating an awareness around something specific that you wish to cultivate for yourself both on and off the mat, some examples of which are; gratitude, patience, forgiveness, love and inner peace.

A goal on the other hand is something you will achieve that will support you in living the life you've always wanted to live. These can be in any realm of your life; family, health, fitness, career or financial and can be set over different periods of time. If it excites, inspires and even scares you a little bit, it's probably exactly what you should be aiming for!

What’s the biggest thing that surprised you when you last did a goal setting session for yourself?

I revisit my vision and goals every 6 months at least, and the biggest surprise I got when I last did a goal setting session was how clear my vision for my life in 10 years is. My goals may have slightly changed but my vision stayed the same, which really validated the work I have been in for the past couple of years! It was also really great that I still get so pumped when talking about my goals to other people, it means I really want to crush them!

What’s the biggest goal that you have set and achieved?

Most recently it was becoming the store manager of Lululemon Queen Street, to take on such a great and huge opportunity in the city was on my goal's since I started at Lululemon over a year ago! Next is Port Macquarie half Ironman in May!

Where can we find you?

You can find me at Lululemon Queen Street or in one of the studios or gym's in the Brisbane City area. Come in and say g'day! And if you ever want to chat about all things vision and goals, head into your local Lululemon store and the epic lemons will be able to help you out!
