Learn To Meditate
One of my ‘intentions’ in 2018 (cause I don’t really love the idea of empty resolutions) is to create even more space for a regular meditation practice in my life. I’ve experimented with myself first hand and seen how a little meditation each day can be the perfect antidote to dealing with stress in my life, and although I love my yoga and moving/working the body is great I am tending to lean more and more towards wanting to share the practice of meditation with my students knowing or intuitively feeling that it’s what they need the most (more so than say, another plank or down dog).
Most people think that to meditate you need to book yourself a flight to India, find a secluded cave or join the monks in a monastery, but meditation can really be simple and something I’ve managed (with a bit of practice) to work into my daily life no matter where I am, even if it’s only ten minutes a day.
It’s easier said than done of course to start up a very regular comitted practice (trust me sometimes I’m super into it and other times ill fall off the band wagon and put it in the too hard basket). What has helped me is choosing the RIGHT time to meditate that suits me. I know I can’t be trusted not to hit the snooze button in the mornings so I choose to meditate at night just before bed, although its recommended as a great way to start your day (if you’re a morning person go for it). For me it’s a great way to wind down after a big day and let go of any worries to ensure a better night sleep (plus you’re heading to bed so of course you have 10 minutes, it leaves me no excuses).
After making a real effort to bring meditation back into my life each day this year, I personally already feel so much more whole, grounded, healthy and the challenges that have already come my way have been manageable.
If you’re not convinced yet that meditation could improve your life…maybe you’ve tried mediation a few times and it just didn’t stick…or maybe you’re a complete beginner not knowing where to start then I’d love you to pop along to my ‘meditation/mindfulness’ workshop at Amber Tree Yoga in a couple of weeks time.
Would love to see you there
